Alonso verheugt zich op enige thuisrace in Barcelona

Ferrari-coureur Fernando Alonso heeft dit jaar nog maar één Grand Prix binnen de grenzen van zijn geboorteland. De Grand Prix van Spanje voltrekt zich over anderhalve week waarschijnlijk weer voor volgepakte tribunes. Alonso stijgt voor eigen publiek altijd wat extra boven zichzelf uit, getuige zijn tweede plek in Barcelona en de emotionele winst in Valencia vorig seizoen.

De tweevoudig wereldkampioen verheugt zich al op de aanstaande thuisrace. "Mijn zege in Barcelona in 2006 behoort samen met Monza 2010 en Valencia 2012 tot de meest memorabele overwinningen van mijn carrière. De warmte die je ontvangt van de toeschouwers en de emoties die je ervaart bij races in Spanje zijn speciaal, van het moment dat je arriveert op het vliegveld tot in het hotel en op het circuit. Je voelt meteen de passie van de fans bij de eerste rondes op vrijdag en zaterdag. Dat zorgt voor net dat beetje extra motivatie, je wil wat terugdoen en zulke details kunnen het verschil maken. Je streeft ernaar om elke run tienden van je tijd te schaven, maar dat is niet ongebruikelijk in de Formule 1", aldus Alonso in Gazzetta dello Sport.
