Formule 1-paddock reageert verrukt op rentree van Honda

Honda keert pas in 2015 terug, maar toch houdt het de gemoederen in de Formule 1-paddock al bezig. De geluiden zijn zonder uitzondering positief, de rentree van de Japanse autofabrikant stemt menigeen vrolijk. Een warm welkom voor Honda lonkt.

McLaren-coureur Jenson Button vertelde aan Totalrace: "Het is goed voor het team en de toekomst van McLaren, maar ook voor de sport. Het betekent dat het aantal motorleveranciers in de Formule 1 stijgt naar vier. Bovendien plaveit het de weg voor andere autofabrikanten om toe te treden."

Fernando Alonso van Ferrari voegt toe: "Het is altijd positief en welkom dat autofabrikanten in de Formule 1 stappen. De kleine teams met lagere kosten kunnen het niet bolwerken, de Formule 1 is veeleisender dan andere series. De komst van Honda is zeer prettig nieuws."

Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner: "Het is geweldig dat Honda terugkeert. Het toont aan dat de Formule 1 ertoe doet voor autofabrikanten. Wij merken de voordelen van Infiniti als partner van Red Bull Racing, dus ik ben blij dat Honda kiest voor een comeback."

Viervoudig wereldkampioen Alain Prost: "Het is fantastisch voor de Formule 1. Het is goed voor Honda, maar ook goed voor het imago van de sport. Volgend jaar gaan we verder met complexe nieuwe technologie en daardoor willen autofabrikanten weer betrokken zijn bij de Formule 1."

Tot slot voormalig Formule 1-coureur Rubens Barrichello: "Toen we wisten dat Honda de Formule 1 zou verlaten, was de treurnis voelbaar in de lucht. Honda zonder Formule 1, de Formule 1 zonder Honda, het is gewoon niet hetzelfde. Ik ben blij dat ze terug komen."
