Vettel laat zich niet remmen door kennis van de tussenstand

Red Bull Racing-coureur Sebastian Vettel staat er uitstekend voor in de titelstrijd, maar de drievoudig wereldkampioen claimt dat hij daar zelf nauwelijks weet van heeft. De Duitser doet zijn best om zo min mogelijk informatie over de tussenstand te vernemen. Het kampioenschap is van later zorg.

Vettel verklaarde in de aanloop naar de Britse Grand Prix: "Als je me nu vraagt - en vertel het alsjeblieft niet - wat mijn score is en wie tweede en derde staan, dan weet ik het niet. Ik ben er niet zeker van, maar volgens mij bezet Fernando Alonso nu de tweede plek, aangezien Kimi Raikkonen een minder resultaat had in Canada, maar ik heb geen idee van aantallen punten."

"Het eerste wat ik doe als ze me na de race de uitslag overhandigen is de tussenstand in het kampioenschap van het blaadje afscheuren. Ik focus me op de rest, op de dingen die nu tellen. Ik probeer het bewust simpel te houden. Het seizoen bestaat uit negentien races. Als je die allemaal maximaliseert, maak je automatisch goede kans om de titel te pakken."

"Ik ben niet achterlijk, maar ik kies ervoor om me te concentreren op de Grands Prix los van elkaar, race voor race. Op die manier kan ik zonder aarzelen een gat induiken op de baan en hoef ik daar niet twee keer over na te denken."

  Hij wil alleen niet precies weten wie op hoeveel punten precies want dan ga je rekenen tijdens een race en dat wil hij niet.

  Het scheelt vervolg vragen van journalisten.
  
  Hij weet echt wel wat de stand is, maar het is makkelijker om te zeggen dat je de stand niet weet dan dat je het standaard verhaal moet afsteken dat het nog te vroeg in het seizoen is om er wat zinnigs over te zeggen.
