Mercedes spreekt volledig vertrouwen in Toto Wolff uit

Toto Wolff kwam deze week opeens in een benarde situatie terecht. Duitse media repten over een opgenomen gesprek tussen de Mercedes-motorsportdirecteur en een oud Formule 1-teambaas (Colin Kolles, red.), en daarin liet de Oostenrijker zich negatief uit over zijn bazen.

Kolles probeerde Wolff te chanteren met het belastende materiaal over Daimler-voorzitter Dieter Zetsche, Mercedes-teambaas Ross Brawn en Mercedes-teampresident Niki Lauda. De voormalige bewindvoerder bij Midland/Force India en HRT verlangde een som geld om zich stil te houden.

Met behulp van Bernie Ecclestone heeft Wolff een regeling getroffen met Kolles en Mercedes zou zelfs een gerechtelijk bevel hebben om de publicatie van de details tegen te houden. De Duitse autofabrikant schaart zich in elk geval volledig achter haar motorsportbaas.

Een woordvoerder van Mercedes vertelde aan het Duitse Sport1: "Toto geniet ons volledige vertrouwen en zet zijn goede werk gewoon voort. We weten dat de Formule 1 een gehaaide wereld is, zeker als je succesvol bent. Hoge bomen vangen veel wind."
