'Petrobras beschouwt Formule 1 als ideaal testplatform'

Brazilië blijft het nieuws in en rondom de Formule 1 maar domineren. Naast geruchten over coureurs als Felipe Massa, Felipe Nasr en zelfs Rubens Barrichello broeit er ook op gebied van sponsors het nodige. Petrobras zou namelijk een terugkeer in de Formule 1 voorbereiden.

De Braziliaanse oliemaatschappij beschouwt de koningsklasse van de autosport als ideale platform om producten te testen en tentoon te spreiden, vernam F1Today.net van bronnen in Brazilië. Het probleem is alleen nog een geschikt team te vinden om als partner te fungeren.

In 2010 heeft Petrobras al eens contact gehad met Lotus en aangezien zowel Massa als Nasr in beeld is bij de Britse renstal is een verband zo gelegd. Helemaal vanwege de connectie met Renault. Alleen heeft Lotus via Romain Grosjean met Total al een partner uit hetzelfde segment.

Petrobras houdt daarom de rentree van Honda in de Formule 1 nauwlettend in de gaten. McLaren is vanwege Mobil 1 niet echt optie, maar er gaan ook verhalen dat de Japanse autofabrikant een tweede team van motoren gaat voorzien. En daar zou Petrobras dan gretig op ingaan.
