Leclerc scoort hattrick aan poles, De Vries elfde

Charles Leclerc mag de hoofdrace in de Formule 2 wederom van pole aanvangen. In zijn woonplaats reed de Monegask een sterke kwalificatie en krijgt hij gezelschap van voormalig GP3-rivaal Alexander Albon. Nyck de Vries start de race vanwege een gridpenalty vanaf een elfde plaats.

Het veld werd voor aanvang van de kwalifictatie in twee groepen verdeeld. Charles Leclerc startte in de eerste groep en wist net als de vorige twee raceweekends een bijzonder sterke ronde neer te zetten. De tweede groep had het voordeel dat er meer grip op de baan was, maar wist dat voordeel niet uit te buiten. Alexander Albon kwam nog het dichtst in de buurt en mag naast Leclerc vanaf de tweede plaats beginnen.

Nyck de Vries reed in de tweede groep en zette een vierde tijd neer. Normaliter had dit hem een achtste plaats opgeleverd, maar vanwege een gridpenalty start de Nederlandse Rapax-coureur vanaf een elfde startplaats. De kwalificatie kende een crash: Nobuhiro Matsushita begin een klassieke Monaco-fout door bij de tweede bocht na het zwembad over de kerbs te rijden. Daardoor lanceerde de Japanner zichzelf en belandde hij in de muur. Kort daarvoor had Matsushita een derde tijd neergezet in zijn groep.

De hoofdrace in de Formule 2 wordt morgen al verreden. De race begint om 11:30 uur.

  Caramba alsof jos dat niet weet haha. Toen max weg ging bij var f3 heeft hij geadviseerd lecrlerc te nemen als zijn opvolger in de karts was dat de enige die max bij kon benen. Var heeft vervolgens dus leclerc ingezet. Kon niet hetzelfde als max in de f3 maar was zeker sneller dan de rest van het veld.

Vanwege het belastingklimaat zal Leclerc wel spoedig naar Monte Carlo verhuizen.
