De Vries heeft het naar zijn zin bij Racing Engineering

Nyck De Vries maakte eind augustus onverwacht de overstap van het team van Rapax naar het team van Racing Engineering. De opmerkelijke transfer legde de Nederlander geen windeieren. Op Spa-Francorchamps eindigde hij in de sprintrace op het podium en op Monza koerste hij af op de zege totdat contact met Charles Leclerc het einde van zijn wedstrijd betekende.

Dat neemt niet weg dat De Vries een heel goed gevoel aan zijn eerste maand in dienst van Racing Engineering heeft overgehouden. "Ik heb het prima naar mijn zin in mijn nieuwe omgeving. Het team heeft me warm welkom geheten. Op Monza voelde ik me echt thuis bij Racing Engineering. We hebben ons allebei snel aan elkaar aangepast. Het is afwachten hoe de rest van het seizoen loopt, maar ik heb er alle vertrouwen in dat we competitief kunnen blijven en vooraan mee zullen doen."

Te beginnen in het weekend van 6 tot en met 8 oktober op het circuit van Jerez. De Vries: "Het is lastig te voorspellen wat daar mogelijk moet zijn, aangezien je nooit weet wat er kan gebeuren in een race. Dat gezegd hebbende, ik denk wel dat het team over een sterk pakket en een goede organisatie beschikt. Ze hebben alle middelen tot hun beschikking om tot de voorhoede te behoren en ik zie niet in waarom dat in Jerez niet het geval zou zijn. We gaan erheen om te winnen."

  Nog steeds heb ik de hoop, dat hij het laat zien, waar hij toe in staat is, een klasse racer,(in de karts was hij 1 van de beste) die als het mee zit, zich in de kijker van de F1 teams kan rijden.

  Prestaties in de karts zeggen lang niet altijd alles , vraag maar aan Peter de Bruijn(die versloeg ooit Senna bij het WK Karting)

  @StevenQ: Senna werd ondanks zijn 5 deelnames nooit wereldkampioen karting. Dus dat zegt niet heel veel. Sowieso heeft De Bruijn imho nooit de overstap gemaakt naar de gewone autoracerij.
