Russell completeert line-up van ART Grand Prix

Mercedes-talent George Russell maakt zoals verwacht de stap naar de Formule 2. De GP3-kampioen van 2017 doet dat bij ART Grand Prix, hetzelfde team als waar hij vorig jaar een niveau lager mee actief was. Bij die renstal komt de 19-jarige Brit komend seizoen weer Jack Aitken, die afgelopen seizoen ook al een van zijn teamgenoten was, tegen.

Russell: "Ik ben heel blij om komend seizoen te racen in de Formule 2 en mijn verblijf bij ART Grand Prix te verlengen. We hebben vorig jaar een heel succesvol jaar samen beleefd en het was in mijn ogen niet meer dan logisch dat we met elkaar op jacht zouden gaan naar nieuwe successen."

"Met de introductie van een nieuwe Formule 2-auto zal het voor alle teams een uitdaging worden om vanaf het begin gelijk de juiste snaar te raken met de set-up. Ik heb echter het volste vertrouwen in ART Grand Prix om zo snel mogelijk zo competitief mogelijk te zijn. Ik kan niet wachten op de eerste race om te strijden tegen de beste coureurs en de beste teams in het voorportaal van de Formule 1."

De jonge Brit maakt sinds begin 2017 onderdeel uit van het opleidingsprogramma van Mercedes. Russell mocht bij de in-season test op de Hungaroring begin augustus namens de Duitse renstal al proeven aan de Formule 1 en bij de laatste twee Grands Prix van het seizoen kwam hij voor Force India in actie tijdens de eerste vrije training op de vrijdag.

Dit wordt een fantastisch F2 seizoen. Ik verwacht dat George Russel kampioen gaat worden, want ik heb hem als rijder heel hoog zitten, nog hoger dan Lando Norris. wat hij in die vrije trainingen t.o.v de vaste rijders liet zien was briljant
