Massa acht titel voor Sette Camara 'noodzakelijk' voor promotie naar F1

Felipe Massa hoopt op korte termijn weer een Braziliaan in de Formule 1 te zien. Zijn hoop is gevestigd op Formule 2-coureur Sergio Sette Camara, die volgens zijn landgenoot wel kampioen moet worden om in aanmerking te komen voor een zitje in de Formule 1.

Massa was in 2017 de laatste Braziliaan die een heel seizoen reed in de Formule 1. Eigenlijk zou hij eind 2016 al stoppen, maar hij bleef nog een jaar langer aan na het abrupte vertrek van Valtteri Bottas naar Mercedes. Tegenwoordig rijdt hij in de Formule E bij Venturi, maar hij heeft nog steeds geen Braziliaanse opvolger gekregen in de Formule 1.

Op korte termijn heeft Massa zijn hoop gevestigd op Sergio Sette Camara. Hij gaat komend weekend in Bahrein beginnen aan zijn derde seizoen in de Formule 2 en is tevens aan McLaren verbonden als test- en ontwikkelingscoureur. Vorig seizoen werd Sette Camara zesde in het kampioenschap zonder een race te winnen, maar maakte hij wel indruk door consistent te presteren.

Met DAMS gaat Sette Camara een nieuwe gooi naar de titel doen. Een titel die hij volgens Massa hard nodig heeft om de Formule 1 te kunnen bereiken. "Ik hoop dat we snel weer een Braziliaan in de Formule 1 hebben. Sergio is een snelle coureur, hij doet het goed en hij rijdt geweldige races. Hij moet het kampioenschap winnen en laten zien dat hij in staat is om naar de Formule 1 te gaan."

"Ik hoop het beste voor hem", vervolgt Massa tegenover Autosport. "Je weet hoe het werkt in de Formule 2: als je daar meteen snel bent en wint, kan je naar de Formule 1 en daar competitief zijn. Als je in je eerste en tweede jaar niet wint, dan is men niet zo geïnteresseerd. Daarmee wil ik niet zeggen dat hij geen talent heeft, maar ik weet hoe de mensen in de paddock van de Formule 1 zijn."

Hij zat in het opleidingsteam van Red Bull tot 2017, daar is hij nu uitgegooid, maar ooit is hij dus wel opgemerkt.

  Als hij idd zo goed was geweest dan was hij al opgepikt door een F1 team en ergens derde rijder geworden. Denk dat Nyck de Vries en Mick Schumacher nog boven Sette Camera staan.

Persoonlijk hoop ik dat Grosjean een bagger jaar draait, Steiner er klaar mee is en Fitipaldi als reserve rijder door stroomt.
Daarnaast... Alles wat Massa zegt komt eigenlijk bij mij zo voorzichtig over. Sette Camara krijgt bij mij alleen al door Massa de indruk van een voorzichtige keuze.
