Ook in seizoensafsluiting P13 voor De Vries, Ghiotto pakt zege in Abu Dhabi

Luca Ghiotto heeft de laatste Formule 2-race van het seizoen gewonnen. De coureur van UNI-Virtuosi wist in een weinig spectaculaire race Nicholas Latifi en Sergio Sette Camara redelijk eenvoudig van zich af te houden. Nyck de Vries werd tegenvallend dertiende.

Giuliano Alesi startte van pole position en kwam goed van zijn plek, waardoor hij de leiding wist te behouden. Tegelijkertijd glipte Ghiotto langs Latifi voor P2, wat direct ook het duel was tussen de coureurs die strijden om de tweede plek in het kampioenschap. Alesi bouwde in eerste instantie een gaatje op richting Ghiotto, maar de Italiaan bleek toch de snellere van de twee.

In de achtste ronde kwam Ghiotto voorbij aan de Fransman, die in het restant van de race steeds wat verder terug begon te vallen. Uiteindelijk zou Alesi als vijfde over de finish komen op het Yas Marina Circuit. De eerstvolgende die aan hem voorbijkwam, was Latifi. De Canadees wilde de achtervolging inzetten op Ghiotto, maar bleek daarbij uiteindelijk te veel van zijn banden te vragen.

Ghiotto liep verder uit in de slotfase en overleefde een late virtual safety car, waarna hij als eerste over de finish kwam. Latifi kwam als tweede over de finish en stelde daarmee de tweede positie in het kampioenschap veilig, terwijl teamgenoot Sergio Sette Camara na een aantal sterke inhaalacties de derde positie pakte.

Callum Ilott sluit zijn eerste Formule 2-seizoen af op de vierde positie, gevolgd dus door Alesi. Louis Deletraz versloeg Carlin-teamgenoot Nobuharu Matsushita in een rechtstreeks duel voor de zesde positie, terwijl Jack Aitken in de slotfase het laatste punt afpakte van Mick Schumacher. Nyck de Vries wist zich niet te herstellen van zijn zwakke race op zaterdag: in de sprintrace kwam hij niet verder dan P13.

Blijf erbij dat hij in zijn handjes mag knijpen dat ie Mercedes fabriekscoureur is geworden in de Formule E. Duidelijk geen F1 materiaal...

Hmm ik heb de race niet gezien, maar ik zie dan wel een duidelijk verschil in (winnaars)mentaliteit tussen Hamilton en De Vries.

Mooi om te zien dat Nyck zijn oude niveau weer haalt. Dat is precies waarom hij geen F1 rijdt en is weggestopt in een klasse met pensionado’s en net-niet coureurs.

  Dus als je kampioen wordt in andere raceklasses buiten de F1 of de F1 ooit hebt gehaald ben je meteen een "net-niet" coureur? Niet echt heel respectvol van je. Noem mij 1 klasse buiten de F1 waar er een competitiever veld rondrijdt dan de FE (de 24 uurs van Le Mans buiten beschouwing gelaten)?

  @Mr Marly, Nyck is toch echt het "net niet" type coureur. De enige reden dat hij dit jaar kampioen is geworden komt omdat alle toprijders aan het begin van dit seizoen zijn overgestapt naar de F1. Kijk waar hij vorig jaar stond in het kampioenschap.
