Verschoor over zijn eerste zege: ''Het was verreweg de snelste race die ik ooit heb gedaan''

Richard Verschoor kende in de Formule 2 een zeer geslaagd weekend in Silverstone .In de kwalificatie behaalde Verschoor zijn beste kwalificatieresultaat met een P3. In de eerste sprintrace liep niet alles naar wens, maar door een P10 mocht de Nederlander in de tweede sprintrace als eerste vertrekken. En niet zonder succes. De in Benschop geboren coureur won namelijk voor het eerst een race in de Formule 2. In de hoofdrace op zondag vocht Verschoor voor het podium, maar kwam net te kort en eindigde als vierde.

Verschoor zei op de officiële website van de Formule 2 over zijn debuutoverwinning: “Het is een tijdje geleden dat ik een race heb gewonnen, dus om vanaf P1 te starten, P1 te blijven na de herstart, de kop aan te voeren en tot de laatste ronde opgejaagd te worden, voelde een beetje anders dan ik de laatste tijd gewend was. Maar ik hoop dat ik dit gevoel ook in de volgende races kan ervaren."

Verschoor baalde wel van de wedstrijdonderbrekeningen. De MP Motorsport-coureur zag steeds zijn voorsprong verdampen. “De herstart was een beetje vervelend, want elke keer na een start bouwde ik een goed gat. We hebben behoorlijk wat moeite gedaan om uit de DRS te blijven en toen was er een Safety Car. Dat was niet ideaal, maar ik denk dat we het heel goed hebben gedaan. Het was verreweg de snelste race die ik ooit heb gedaan, dus het was goed, en ik hoop het te herhalen.''
