Piastri wint hoofdrace op Monza achter safety car, Verschoor op P7

Titelkandidaat Oscar Piastri heeft op Monza goede zaken verricht voor het kampioenschap. Vanaf poleposition won de Prema-coureur in een hoofdrace met vier onderbrekingen en breidde zijn voorsprong uit op Gianyu Zhou in het kampioenschap, die tweede werd. Dan Ticktum finishte als derde en profiteerde van een late safety car. De Brit crashte bijna, maar kon zich toch naar het podium terug knokken.

De wedstrijd werd achter de safety car beëindigd na een incident tussen David Beckmann en Nederlander Bent Viscaal, die beiden vochten om de punten. Landgenoot Richard Verschoor kon ondanks problemen bij de verplichte pitstop punten mee naar huis nemen met een zevende plaats.

In de stand heeft Piastri 149 punten. Zhou volgt op 134. Robert Shwartzman eindigde op P6 en staat derde in de tussenstand met 113 punten. Verschoor staat 10de en Viscaal 15de. De volgende ontmoeting, de zesde van in totaal acht weekenden is in Sotsji in Rusland op van 24 t/m 26 september.
