Verschoor wint overtuigend en pakt leiding in stand

Richard Verschoor kon de start van het nieuwe F2-seizoen niet beter beginnen. De Trident-coureur zegevierde in de openingsrace op het Bahrein International Circuit en pakt automatisch de leiding in het kampioenschap met tien punten.

Vanaf P2 greep de Nederlander brutaal de leiding en stond hem niet meer af. Op het einde kwam een aanstormende Jehan Daruvala, maar door het gevecht met Ralph Boschung om P2 en een Virtual Safety Car bleef Verschoor zijn conculega uit India voor. De derde plaats was voor Liam Lawson.

Dat de overwinning voor Verschoor extra zoet smaakt, is geen verrassing. Voor dit seizoen was allesbehalve zeker dat de Nederlander een stoeltje kon bemachtigen. Dankzij 17 gulle sponsors kreeg hij opnieuw de kans om te schitteren in de Formule 2.

Op zondag staat nog de hoofdrace op de planning om 11.40 uur Nederlandse tijd. Verschoor start vanaf P9 door zijn kwalificatie van vrijdag.

Strak gereden direct de leiding genomen en goed uitgecontroleerd! opsteker voor Trident na magere jaren, knappe race ook van Bansai Iwasa van 22 naar 8 op slechts 15sec van de racewinnaar not bad at all.
