Verschoor herpakt zich in Bakoe en kwalificeert als zesde

Richard Verschoor heeft op de vrijdag de zesde kwalificatietijd gereden in de straten van Bakoe en begint in de hoofdrace op zondag als zesde. In de sprintrace van zaterdag start de Trident-coureur als vijfde door de reverse-grid-regel.

De snelste ronde in de kwalificatie was voor Red Bull-junior Jüri Vips. Liam Lawson en Dennis Hauger, twee andere talenten van Red Bull, staan achter de Est. Kampioenschapsleider Felipe Drugovich werd vijfde.

Redemption

Verschoor kent een lastige periode na een sterk begin van 2022 met een overwinning, een tweede en vijfde plek in de eerste vier ontmoetingen. Daarna ging het snel bergafwaarts en scoorde Verschoor geen enkel punt meer.

Voorafgaand aan dit weekend hoopte de Trident-coureur op verbetering. "We hadden niet zoveel tijd om ons voor te bereiden, Monaco was nog maar twee weken geleden. Maar ik heb in de sportschool getraind en daarna hebben we drie dagen in de simulator alle scenario's doorgenomen."

"Vorig jaar was ik hier langzaam. Het was hetzelfde in Monaco, dus ik hoop dat we dit jaar een goed tempo hebben en dat het een leukere race wordt. Ik heb het gevoel dat we iets goed te maken hebben dus ik ben erg gemotiveerd om het goed te doen en het team ook."
