Drugovich F2-kampioen, historische titel voor MP Motorsport

Felipe Drugovich is ondanks een uitvalbeurt in de sprintrace van Monza de nieuwe F2-kampioen van 2022. De Braziliaan zorgde voor een historische eerste titel voor het Nederlandse MP Motorsport uit Westmaas.

Zijn enige overgebleven concurrent Theo Pourchaire moest minimaal in de top zes eindigen om nog kans te maken op het kampioenschap en de ART Grand Prix-coureur moest vanaf P14 veel posities goedmaken. Maar na een korte opmars ging het mis voor de Fransman en viel terug naar P16.

Drugovich volgt toekomstig McLaren-coureur Oscar Piastri op als kampioen. Als F2-kampioen mag je niet je titel verdedigen en Drugovich moet dus op zoek naar een nieuw avontuur. De MP Motorsport-coureur hoopt natuurlijk zijn carrière te vervolgen in de koningsklasse.

Hoewel de strijd om het rijderskampioenschap voorbij, is het gevecht bij de teams nog volledig over na de dubbele uitvalbeurt van MP Motorsport. Naast Drugovich viel namelijk ook teamgenoot Clement Novalak uit nadat hij schade reed door een aanvaring met Ralph Boschung.

De sprintrace in de late middag was een prooi voor voormalig Red Bull-junior Juri Vips. Frederick Vesti volgde op een paar seconden en Jehan Daruvala maakte de top drie compleet.
