Richard Verschoor in aanloop van nieuw seizoen: ''We moeten onze weg nog vinden''

Terwijl de Formule 1 volgende week aan de beurt is voor de pre-season-test in Bahrein, hebben de talenten van de Formule 2 in Sakhir de voorbereidingen voor het nieuwe seizoen zaterdag afgerond na een driedaagse test. Richard Verschoor klokte uiteindelijk de snelste tijd in zijn Van Amersfoort Racing-bolide, maar was nog niet helemaal tevreden.

“We moeten onze weg nog vinden'', zei Verschoor nog na de tweede dag. Ik denk dat er zeker dingen zijn om aan te werken. Het gevoel op de zachte banden is erg goed en ik hou van hoe het team met de auto werkt en hoe we met bepaalde situaties omgaan, maar er zijn nog een paar dingen waar aan gewerkt moet worden om het totale pakket werkend te krijgen. Natuurlijk ben ik blij dat ik P1 ben, maar ik had niet eens het gevoel dat ik er het maximale uit haalde, maar het was een goede ronde.”

Ondanks dat er nog meer in het vat zit, zijn de resultaten voor Van Amersfoort Racing bemoedigend aan de vooravond van haar tweede F2-seizoen. Honderden rondes reed zowel Verschoor en teamgenoot Juan Manuel Correa bij elkaar en konden daardoor veel data verzamelen.

Ook zal de samenwerking tussen Verschoor en zijn nieuwe werkgever zal zich verder moeten ontpoppen tot een geoliede machine. De Nederlander vertelt over de eerste periode bij de Nederlandse renstal: “Het is altijd een beetje om iedereen te leren kennen. Je leert mensen echt kennen als je samen moeilijke momenten beleefd, maar ook door goede momenten. Daar hebben we dus wat meer tijd voor nodig, maar ik heb het gevoel dat ik me vanaf het begin, al voordat ik tekende, erg goed voelde in de groep. Het helpt ook dat we allemaal Nederlanders zijn, nou ja, de meesten zijn Nederlands, dus ik voel me goed.''

Ondanks snelle rondes, geeft Verschoor wel een verbeterpunt aan. ''Op dit moment zou ik zeggen dat ik aan het racetempo moet werken. Ik voel me nog niet helemaal zelfverzekerd. Eerlijk is eerlijk, we zien er goed uit, maar ik ben nog niet tevreden'', sloot de Nederlander af.

Op de derde dag en laatste testdag van gisteren werd Verschoor zesde en simuleerde meerdere races. Hiermee kwam aan de driedaagse test tot een einde en zal hij twee weken moeten wachten totdat het F2-kampioenschap losbarst.

Hoe raar misschien ook dat dit klinkt... maar de eerder hij de hoop op F1 opgeeft, de mooier zijn racecariere weleens kan zijn. Werd door best wel wat Indycar teams en LMP2 teams benaderd voor dit jaar... maar is toch in F2 gebleven met dat kleine sprankje hoop op F1... Ik zie geen drie nederland... [Lees verder]

Hoe raar misschien ook dat dit klinkt... maar de eerder hij de hoop op F1 opgeeft, de mooier zijn racecariere weleens kan zijn. Werd door best wel wat Indycar teams en LMP2 teams benaderd voor dit jaar... maar is toch in F2 gebleven met dat kleine sprankje hoop op F1... Ik zie geen drie nederlanders tegelijk in F1 komen. Hoe dominant hij ook eventueel zou zijn in F2. Nyck gaat vast niet onder doen voor Yuki... dus krijgt vast wel tenminste een 2de jaar. En Verstappen wijst elke keer naar zijn contract tot 2028.

Daar waar de kansen voor Nyck 1% was... is dat voor Verschoor (ongeacht zijn resultaten) 0,01% ofzo.

  Nee, klinkt niet raar. Ik heb hetzelfde gevoel. Verschoor zie ik niet in f1, maar hij kan hele mooie carrière in andere klassen hebben en dat is absoluut geen schande .

  Ben het wel redelijk mee eens met dit maar ik denk dat hij hetzelfde pad van De Vries wilt wandelen. Een late F2 titel zegt meer dan een p9 in 2022. Ik denk dat er dan ook meer deuren open vliegen.

  Wat je toekomst ook wordt, als je nog een jaar F2 kan doen, zou ik dat altijd doen. WEC of Indy kan je de komende 20/30 jaar nog doen, F2 niet.

  Hij gaat de F1 nooit halen sinds Red Bull de stekker eruit gooide. Maar stel hij wordt derde dit jaar dan kan hij nog ruim 25 jaar overal aan de slag. F2 is voor een paar jaar, tenzij hij de nieuwe Mehri wil worden ;p
