Nico Hulkenberg domineert op de Nurburgring

Nico Hulkenberg heeft op dominante wijze de eerste race op de Nurburgring op zijn naam geschreven. De Duitser geeft daarmee opnieuw zijn visitekaartje af, nadat hij in Zandvoort gediskwalificeerd werd vanwege een te lichte auto bij de technische keuring. Hulkenbergs teamgenoot Jules Bianchi eindigt als tweede, voor de verrassende Tom Dillman.

Mika Maki komt net tekort voor het podium op de vierde plek, Renger van der Zande eindigt als vijfde. De zesde plek is voor Euro Serie-debutant Daniel Ricciardo. Daarachter speelde zich een mooi gevecht af voor de zevende plek tussen Jon Lancaster en Niall Breen. Daardoor is Breen echter wel de gelukkige om morgen vanaf pole position te vertrekken bij de tweede race van het weekeinde.

Kampioenschapsleider Eduardo Mortara kent opnieuw een ongelukkig weekeinde. Hij raakt betrokken bij een crash in de eerste bocht en moet opgeven, net als Dani Clos en Erik Janis. Sam Bird is ook betrokken bij het incident, maar kan verder na een reparatie in de pits.

Christian Vietoris kent niet veel geluk. Hij kent een slechte start en verliest veel plaatsen. Later in de race rijdt hij, in een poging posities goed te maken, achterop de wagen van James Jakes.
Renger van der Zande mag met dank aan zijn vijfde plek morgen als vierde starten in de tweede race. De andere Nederlander, Henkie Waldschmidt, eindigt in het middenveld als vijftiende.
