Eduardo Mortara wint eerste race

Eduardo Mortara heeft de eerste race in Macau gewonnen. De Volkswagen-coureur profiteert van het utvallen van pole-sitter Carlo van Dam in de openingsronde en weet in de zevende ronde een weg te vinden langs TOM's-coureur Keisuke Kunimoto.

Mortara: "Ik ben erg blij met deze overwinning, hoewel het nog maar de eerste race is. Mijn start was wat beter dan de auto's voor me, zodat ik de slipstream van beide TOM's-auto's kon pakken. Het circuit was erg glad, waardoor ik zelf bijna in de muur belandde tijdens de eerste ronde. Pas vanaf de derde ronde heb ik echt gepusht. Toen ik eenmaal aan de leiding lag, was pushen niet meer nodig. Vanaf dat moment heb ik de race gecontroleerd."

Roberto Streit komt in de slotfase nog aan de start van Kunimoto, maar kan geen goede inhaalpoging wagen. Hetzelfde geldt voor Oliver Turvey op de vierde plek, waardoor Streit de laatste podiumplek pakt.
