Teambaas Van Amersfoort: "Voorwaardelijke schorsing erg zwaar"

Max Verstappen kende zaterdag een tegenvallende eerste race op het circuit van Imola. De Nederlander zag Esteban Ocon aan de horizon verdwijnen en verloor de tweede plaats in het klassement. Ook kreeg de Nederlander een voorwaardelijke schorsing vanwege zijn aandeel in de botsing met Roy Nissany. Frits van Amersfoort bekritiseert de beslissing van de wedstrijdleiding.

"Ik denk dat het wel erg hard is voor Max," vertelt Van Amersfoort aan Autosport. "Ik begrijp dat iedereen hem in de gaten houdt en dat hij dit jaar wel meer ongelukken heeft meegemaakt, maar die waren lang niet allemaal aan hem te wijten."

"Ik waardeer Francis Murac (hoofdsteward van het Europees Formule 3-kampioenschap, red.), maar ik vind dat Fuoco een gridstraf van tien plaatsen verdient voor zijn actie op Max." Het is niet de eerste keer dat Verstappen en Fuoco elkaar in de haren vliegen. Van Amersfoort hoopt dat de sfeer in de laatste races nog even normaal kan blijven. "Ik zou willen dat de teams vriendelijk blijven. Blijf allemaal gewoon rustig," baalt de teambaas.
