Daniel Juncadella verslaat Merhi voor zege in derde race

Daniel Juncadella heeft vanochtend de derde en laatste race van het weekend op Paul Ricard op zijn naam geschreven. De Prema-coureur ging teamgenoot Roberto Merhi met nog drie ronden te gaan voorbij en pakte zo zijn eerste zege van het seizoen.

Polesitter Merhi en Juncadella reden meteen bij de start weg van de rest van het veld dat werd aangevoerd door Marco Wittmann. Vijftien ronden lang was het een saaie race aan de kop van het veld, maar met nog drie ronden te gaan waagde Juncadella een inhaalactie op zijn teamgenoot. Merhi werd verslagen en eindigde een seconde achter zijn teammaat als tweede. Wittmann pakte de derde en laatste podiumplaats.

Nigel Melker, die de race als vijfde aanving, ging voorbij aan de Belg Laurens Vanthoor en eindigde als vierde. Felix Rosenqvist was ook betrokken bij het gevecht voor de vierde stek, maar hij moest met nog tien ronden te gaan zijn Mucke-bolide aan de kant parkeren.
