Marco Wittmann verslaat Merhi en grijpt pole position

Marco Wittmann heeft zich zojuist verzekerd van de pole position voor de eerste race in Hockenheim. De Duitse vice-kampioen eindigde als eerste na een half uur kwalificeren. Hij bleef Roberto Merhi minder dan een tiende voor.

Het was, net als in de testsessie vanochtend, Signature en Prema die de dienst uitmaakten in de kwalificatie. Wittmann bleef met zijn 1:33.152 Prema-teamgenoten Merhi en Daniel Juncadella nipt voor. Kampioenschapsleider Juncadella kwam ruim drie tienden tekort. Laurens Vanthoor volgde als tweede Signature-rijder als vierde op 0.386 seconden achterstand.

Nigel Melker eindigde de kwalificatie als zevende. De Nederlander kwam in zijn Mucke-bolide zes tienden tekort op de tijd van Wittmann.
