Hoofdrace: Martins stormt naar voren en pakt strakke zege in Bahrein

Victor Martins heeft vanaf P5 de hoofdrace in de Formule 3 gewonnen op het Bahrein International Circuit en hield de ontketende Arthur Leclerc achter zich. Polesitter Franco Colapinto kwam als derde over de meet, maar kreeg een tijdstraf van vijf seconden vanwege het overschrijden van de baanlimieten. De Argetijn zorgde tijdens de kwalificatie op vrijdag voor een perfect debuut voor Van Amersfoort Racing, maar in de wedstrijdmoest de 18-jarige coureur genoegen nemen met P6.

De wedstrijd kwam door een safety car in de openingsronde en vlak daarna een virtual safety car laat op gang. Opvallend was de prestatie van Leclerc die vanaf P13 de wedstrijd van zijn leven reed. De broer van Ferrari-coureur Charles Leclerc bleef uit de problemen bij de start en werkte zich met een strak tempo naar voren.

De volgende ronde is in Imola in het weekend van 22-24 april.
