Buemi wint eerste race in Londen, e.dams kampioen bij teams

Sebastien Buemi heeft zaterdag de eerste van twee Formule E-races in de straten van Londen op zijn naam geschreven. Mede door de zege van de Zwitser wist zijn team e.dams beslag te leggen op het kampioenschap bij de teams.

Buemi mocht de tiende wedstrijd van het seizoen van pole position aanvangen. Na de start, die om veiligheidsredenen achter de safety car plaatsvond, trok hij meteen een gaatje naar achtervolger Jerôme d'Ambrosio. Dat gaatje bleek niet meer te overbruggen. Met zijn derde zege van het seizoen klom Buemi naar de tweede plek in het kampioenschap, dat zondag beslist wordt tijdens de tweede race in Londen.

In het kampioenschap leidt Nelson Piquet jr. met een marge van vijf punten. Ook Lucas di Grassi dingt nog mee naar de titel en heeft dertien punten minder dan Piquet. De twee Brazilianen vochten de gehele race een verbeten duel uit. Hoewel ze Jean-Eric Vergne moesten laten gaan voor de derde positie, eindigden Di Grassi en Piquet respectievelijk als vierde en vijfde op het circuit in Battersea Park.

Bij Andretti Autosport stapte Simona de Silvestro in voor de eerste race in Londen. Ze kwalificeerde zich als zestiende en klom tijdens de wedstrijd op naar de elfde plek. Hoewel ze daarvoor geen punten krijgt, verdiende ze daarmee wel de eer van best geklasseerde vrouw dit seizoen. Later vandaag krijgt zij de kans om alsnog punten te scoren tijdens de laatste race van het seizoen.
