E-Prix Mexico: Wehrlein wint overtuigend, De Vries op P15 beste Nederlander

Porsche-coureur Pascal Wehrlein won vanaf poleposition de kleurloze openingsrace van het tiende Formule E-seizoen in Mexico. Het was zijn tweede zege in het Latijns-Amerikaanse land. Sebastian Buemi moest genoegen nemen met P2. Nick Cassidy maakte het podium compleet.

De rentree van Nyck de Vries was onopvallend. De voormalig kampioen van de elektrische klasse begon achteraan na een dramatische kwalificatie en kwam die uitzichtloze positie niet meer te boven , mede omdat inhalen op de verkorte versie van Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit lastig was. Dankzij wat uitvallers werd De Vries nog vijftiende.

Landgenoot Robin Frijns kende - na een hoopvolle kwalificatie - een valse start van het seizoen. Eerst viel de Envision Racing-coureur van plaats zeven ver terug naar P16 door een zeer slechte start. Een paar ronden later gleed de Nederlander zichzelf in de muur, iets na het stadiongedeelte. Dit veroorzaakte een Safety Car.

Niet alleen Frijns viel uit in deze E-Prix. Eerder elimineerde Antonio Felix da Costa zichzelf na een mislukte inhaalpoging op Nico Mueller, die daardoor achterste voren de muur inknalde. De Portugees viel met schade uit. Ook Lucas di Grassi - in de 100ste race van ABT Cupra - kreeg een DNF achter zijn naam. Sergio Sette Camara kon niet eens de wedstrijd beginnen.

In de slotfase van de wedstrijd gebeurde er niet veel meer op het asfalt ondanks dat een rijtje coureurs zaten te azen op de P5 van Mitch Evans. De posities voor het eremetaal was al vergeven met Wehrlein als overwinnaar. De Duitser pakte automatisch door de zege de leiding in het kampioenschap.

Over twee weken is ronde twee in Saoedi-Arabië. Daar staan twee races gepland.

Wordt een beetje een kopie van vorig jaar. Porsche vs Jaguar + klantenteams.

Daarmee vooral Frijns en Da Costa de eerste slag gemist.

Persoonlijk zou ik t leuk vinden als Buemi de titel wint.

Doen ze tegenwoordig al de volledige ronde van het circuit rijden of is het nog steeds de kortere versie?

Heb ooit gekeken en toen was zelfs Monaco een verkorte ronde.

  Monaco is al wel een aantal jaren nu de lange. Vaak daar wel leuke races.
  
  De meeste circuits zijn wat mij betreft te kort en eigenlijk deze layout ook.

  Denk dat de chicane voorafgaand het stadion in niks toevoegt en juist een inhaalplek verwijderd.

Wat een saaie race niet de moeite om te kijken dus maar snel doorgespoeld naar het einde. Ten eerste geen enkel recht stuk om wat in te halen en de bocht voor start finish volgens mij hadden ze allemaal heel veel moeite om daar lekker volgas doorheen te gaan............banden zijn erg glad of weinig grip. Benieuwd naar de rest van het seizoen, maar dit was een afknapper qua race.
