D'Ambrosio op pole, Frijns elfde

Voormalig Formule 1-coureur Jerome D'Ambrosio start de ePrix van Punta del Este vanaf pole. De Belg was ruim drie tiende sneller dan de nummer twee, teamgenoot Loic Duval. Sam Bird, die in de eerste training nog crashte, reed de derde tijd. Onze landgenoot Robin Frijns kon de goede vorm van de trainingen die doortrekken naar de kwalificatie, Frijns start als elfde nadat hij in beide vrije trainingen nog de vijfde tijd reed.

Achter de top drie vinden we Lucas Di Grassi, Buemi, Prost, Abt, Antonio Felix da Costa, Bruno Senna en Oliver Turvey. Buemi was in de trainingen goed op dreef, maar maakte in de beslissende kwalificatiesessie een foutje. In de eerste kwalificatie was het Turvey die een snelle tijd rijd, maar al snel bleek dat de tijd niet goed genoeg was voor een plek in de top vijf. In de tweede kwalificatiegroep was Di Grassi bijna een seconde sneller. D'Ambrosio liet in de tweede kwalificatiegroep aanvankelijk drie tienden liggen, maar wist dit goed te maken in de strijd om de super pole.. In de derde groep reed Duval de snelste tijd, maar liet wel zes tienden liggen op de snelste tijd van dat moment, Duval wist in de strijd om de pole twee tiende goed te maken ten opzichte van D'Ambrosio maar het was niet genoeg voor de pole.

Incidenten waren er ook genoeg: Jacques Villeneuve parkeerde zijn Venturi-bolide in de muur, hier had Simona De Silvestro last van in haar snelle ronde. Debutant Oliver Rowland reed ook bijna schade, maar wist zijn auto wonderwel uit de muur te houden. Rowland start als zestiende voor Vergne en Villeneuve.

De ePrix van Punta del Este begint om 20:00 uur. Jacques Villeneuve zal niet starten, zo heeft zijn team Venturi bekend gemaakt. De auto van de Canadees is te zwaar beschadigd om nog voor de start gerepareerd te kunnen worden.
