Buemi wint race 1 in New York, Vergne moet nog wachten op titel

Sebastien Buemi heeft de voorlaatste race van het Formule E-seizoen 2018/19 gewonnen. De coureur van Nissan e.dams bleef Mitch Evans en Antonio Felix da Costa voor in de straten van New York.

Buemi vertrok de race vanaf pole position en sloeg meteen een gaatje naar de concurrentie. Later in de eerste ronde werd Jose Maria Lopez in een spin geduwd door Sam Bird, wat in een kettingreactie leidde tot een botsing tussen teamgenoten Andre Lotterer en kampioenschapsleider Jean-Eric Vergne. Vergne liep daarbij schade op aan zijn bodywork en moest naar de pits om een lekke band te laten vervangen.

Vergne loopt titel mis in eerste race in New York

Vergne moest daardoor aan een inhaalrace beginnen, die hem tot de veertiende positie bracht. In de laatste ronde ging het helemaal fout voor de Techeetah-coureur, want een botsing met Felipe Massa zorgde ervoor dat hij uitviel. Doordat Lucas di Grassi als vijfde eindigde, kon Vergne nog niet beginnen met het vieren van zijn tweede Formule E-titel op rij.

Aan het front kreeg Buemi in eerste instantie bezoek van Alex Lynn, maar de Brit viel met nog 20 minuten te gaan uit met technische problemen. Alexander Sims kwam daardoor op P2 te liggen, maar die positie verloor hij na de safety car-fase aan Evans. De Nieuw-Zeelander van Jaguar hoopte in de slotfase de aanval in te kunnen zetten op Buemi, maar daar kwam het uiteindelijk niet van.

Buemi pakte zodoende in New York zijn eerste zege van het Formule E-seizoen 2018/19, voor Evans en Felix da Costa, die in de slotfase nog voorbij ging aan Sims. Sims pakte P4, voor Di Grassi. Daniel Abt werd zesde, voor Pascal Wehrlein, Sam Bird, Jerome d'Ambrosio en Oliver Turvey. Robin Frijns viel al betrekkelijk vroeg in de race uit door schade die hij had opgelopen aan zijn bolide.

Nog vier kanshebbers op titel in laatste race

De laatste race van het Formule E-seizoen vindt vandaag (zondag) plaats en wederom zijn de straten van New York daarvoor het toneel. Vergne verdedigt een voorsprong van 22 punten op Di Grassi, terwijl Evans en Buemi met 25 en 26 punten achterstand ook nog een kans hebben op de titel in het vijfde seizoen van de Formule E.

Leuk al die zeikerds, geluid blabla. Feit is dat bijna alle grote fabrikanten in de FE zitten en niet in F1. Zegt genoeg denk ik.

Ik vind het echt niet om aan te zien en horen. De meeste circuits zijn claustrofobie opwekkend en de motoren klinken als stofzuigers. Ik hoop echt dat de F1 gewoon op fossiele brandstoffen blijft rijden.

wat een race yoh......ik vind enkel de wagens miss net iets te sterk.
D'ambrosio zal vinden van niet. Als je er niet langs kan rij je er toch gewoon over.
Er was gisteren meer actie in 45 min dan in de f1 op een hèèl seizoen.
Ik ben al hèèl lang een trouwe f1 kijken en zal dat ook blijven maar je merkt gewoon dat de f1 verkeerd bezig is.

  ook ja......tenminste wat actie en pogingen om in te halen.
  De circuits lenen er zich ook toe hè :-)
  
  Vandaar ook mijn vermelding dat de wagens ietsje te sterk zijn.

Heel vermakelijke races dit jaar, al heeft de plaatwerker overuren nodig om alle auto's weer in elkaar gelijmd te krijgen. Er werd zelfs al gesproken om de motoren minder power te geven zodat er minder aggressief geracet wordt en meer op energie sparen wordt gefocust. Zou voor de amusementswaarde dan wel jammer zijn natuurlijk
