Formule E vult kalender voor 2021/2022 aan tot acht races

De organisatie van de Formule E heeft een hernieuwde kalender voor het seizoen 2021/2022 bekendgemaakt. Daarin zijn zes extra races opgenomen. In het vorige voorlopige schema stonden alleen de openingsraces in Diriyah (Saoedi-Arabië) op 26 en 27 februari vast, maar dat is nu aangevuld met nog eens zes wedstrijden. En ook dit betreft een voorlopige kalender.

De Formule E keert op 10 april terug naar de Italiaanse hoofdstad Rome. Daarna volgt een race op het permanente circuit van Valencia, het Circuit Ricardo Tormo. De elektrische klasse rijdt normaal gesproken op tijdelijke stratencircuits in het centrum van steden, maar maakt vanwege de coronapandemie nu even een uitzondering voor Valencia.

Venturi-teambaas Susie Wolff hoopt dat dit eenmalig is. "Hopelijk begeven we ons niet op een hellend vlak dat ons in de richting van permanente circuits beweegt en is dit tijdelijk om de moeilijke omstandigheden van de situatie met het coronavirus het hoofd te bieden. De Formule E hoort in stadscentra thuis. Dat heeft een doel, we spreiden elektrische mobiliteit tentoon en tonen de toekomst", reageerde ze tegenover Reuters.

Na Valencia volgt een ronde in Monaco, waarna de Formule E Europa verlaat en op 22 mei racet in Marrakesj in Marokko. Begin juni staan er dan nog twee races in de Chileense hoofdstad Santiago op het programma.

Dit is de kalender voor seizoen 2020/2021, voor het volgende seizoen is nog niks bekend namelijk.

  Ach ze hebben altijd Berlijn nog als backup voor 4 tot 6 extra races. Logistiek gezien is een stratencircuit een stuk lastiger sinds corona... en t was altijd al lastig. Ook voor F1.
