Nyck de Vries uitgesloten van kwalificatie na zorgen over veiligheid

Op de vrijdag was Nyck de Vries de gevierde man in Saudi-Arabië met een pole en zege, maar tijdens de kwalificatie voor de tweede race zat de Nederlander noodgedwongen langs de kant. De FIA verbood uit voorzorg alle wagens met de Mercedes-aandrijflijn de baan op te gaan. De aanleiding van dit besluit gebeurde nadat Edoardo Mortora na een proefstart op ongewone wijze keihard crashte in de muur. De gevolgen van de klap waren zo groot dat de RoKiT Ventuiri Racing - coureur voor controle naar het ziekenhuis werd gebracht. De Zwitser is bij bewustzijn, is aanspreekbaar en kan zijn vingers en tenen bewegen. Meer informatie over zijn toestand is nog onbekend.Wat precies de oorzaak is van dit zware ongeval wordt nog onderzocht. Er wordt onder andere gespeculeerd over een vasthangend gaspedaal of falend remsysteem. Zolang het euvel niet verholpen is, blijft voor de Nyck de Vries deelname aan de tweede wedstrijd onzeker.

Was zeker vreemd, maar om dan 3 coureurs uit de quali en mogelijk ook nog de race te halen vind ik ook wat ver gaan.
Alle Mercedes aangedreven wagens gediskwalificeerd om mogelijk een technisch falen van 1 auto ?, gaat de FIA dit ook op de F1 toepassen ?
Kan nog leuk worden.

    Ik heb het voorval even op YouTube opgezocht en het zag er inderdaad een beetje vreemd uit.
    Het gevoel van snelheid bij de crash miste ik, maar dat komt waarschijnlijk door het gemis aan motorgeluid.

      Bij de F1 hebben de remmen en de motor weinig met elkaar te maken, bij de FE is dat een heel ander verhaal

      Bij de F1 is er ook wel degelijk een brake-by-wire systeem waar de motor een deel van het remvermogen op zich neemt, en waar dus de achterremmen automatisch minder hard moeten remmen. Zonder brake by wire zouden vele F1 bolides achterstevoren staan bij het afremmen.

    Het lijkt me sterk dat ze binnen een uur achter de oorzaak komen
    en dat Stoffel en Nyck straks aan de race mogen deelnemen.
    Ik hoop dat ik er naast zit.
    Gisteren had Frijns heel veel pech, maar vandaag mag hij van pole vertrekken.
    Hopelijk kan hij dan voor de zege gaan.

      Onwijs sneu voor de Vries deze vreemde FIA maatregel. Maar met een beetje geluk wint Frijns de race zo meteen, en staat hij samen met Nyck met 29 p.ntjes bovenaan in het kampioenschap.

      Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team twitterde:

      STATEMENT: First and most importantly, we are pleased that Edo is safe and well following his accident in FP3.

      Our analysis since then has enabled us to understand what occurred and put in place suitable counter measures.

      The braking system on Formula E cars is designed so that if the front brakes fail, the rear brake system is activated as a fail-safe.

      In this instance, an incorrect software parameter that meant the rear brake system didn't activate as intended and the fail-safe did not kick in.

      We have now corrected the software problem and demonstrated to the FIA’s satisfaction that the matter has been resolved.

      As a result, the FIA will permit all Mercedes-powered cars to race this evening.

      Thanx @Pietje. Dit gaat een hele gave race worden, met de snelle gasten van gister (Rast en Evans die domweg te laat over start/finish reden om zich überhaupt te mogen kwalificeren) die zo meteen allemaal van achter moeten komen met de Benz boys. Mortara doet helaas niet mee, maar voelt zich prima ;)
