Robin Frijns pakt pole voor tweede race, Nyck de Vries mag toch deelnemen aan wedstrijd

Robin Frijns heeft de eer van Nederland hoog gehouden met een zeer verdiende pole position voor de tweede race in Saudi-Arabië. Op het zanderige stratencircuit van Diriyah bleef de Envision Virgin-coureur drie tienden voor op oud Formule 2-rijder Sergio Sette Camara. Nyck de Vries - die gisteren nog de pole veroverde - kwam niet actie vanwege veiligheidsredenen. Na een vreemde en harde crash van Edoardo Mortora werd er uit voorzorg niet gereden met de door de Mercedes aangedreven bolides.

De kwalificatie gaat in de Formule E door middel van een groepsfase. Het veld wordt verdeeld over vier groepen. De coureurs proberen in elke groep een goede tijd neer te zetten. De beste zes tijden uit de groepsfase gaan door voor superpole. Robin Frijns was zowel in de groepsfase en tijdens de superpole de snelste en kreeg daarvoor vier wk-punten alvast bijgeschreven. Titelverdediger Antonio Felix da Costa kwam niet verder dan de tiende tijd.

Om 18.00 start de tweede race in Saudi-Arabië en de wedstrijd is te volgen op Ziggo Sport Racing. Het is op het moment van schrijven nog niet bekend of Nyck de Vries en de andere Mercedes-wagens aan de start kunnen verschijnen.

Update: Mercedes liet via haar kanalen weten dat het probleem is opgelost. Dat betekent dat alle Mercedes aangedreven bolides aan de start mogen verschijnen. Goed nieuws dus voor Nyck de Vries. De race zal voor de coureur uit Sneek geen gemakkelijke opgave worden. De 26-jarige rijder moet door het missen van de kwalificatie achteraan beginnen.

Qua racen en inhaalacties is de Formule E echt heel vermakelijk om naar te kijken, ik zit er weer om 18:00 klaar voor. Tip: kies het 2de geluidsspoort bij Ziggo om het Engelse commentaar te horen!

  Klopt helemaal het commentaar van Ronald van Dam, de polyvalente speler zoals hij zich op zijn eigen site noemt, is niet om aan te horen. Namen en tijden roepen om maar niet inhoudelijk te moeten vermelden.

De winnaar van de groepskwalificatie krijgt 1 p.nt, en de winnaar van de superpole krijgt 3 p.nten. Dus Frijns heeft 4 p.nten gescoord net als de Vries gister. Ook krijgt de coureur met de snelste raceronde (net als in de F1) nog 1 p.ntje bijgeschreven na de race mits hij in de top 10 weet te finishen.
