Mortara superblij na zijn tweede E-Prix-winst in Mexico: "Deze overwinning is fantastisch"

In een bomvol autosportweekend was er zondag laat nog Formule E in de schaduw van de Formule 1. Edoardo Mortara won de wedstrijd in Puebla Mexico dankzij een slimme strategie met Attack Modes. De Italiaan sprong dankzij de zege naar de top van het klassement.

Pascal Wehrlein pushte hard om Mortara te verslaan, maar de Duitser maakte een fout en viel van het podium af. Debutant Nick Cassidy profiteerde en scoorde een goed bevochten podium nadat de Nieuw-Zeelandse coureur op de zaterdag nog een crash meemaakte. Hij verschalkte polesitter Oliver Rowland voor P2.

Frijns en De Vries willen dit weekend snel vergeten. Frijns viel net buiten de punten op P11 en de Vries werd slachtoffer van een inciden. De Mercedes-coureur werd hard van achteren aangetikt en kon niet verder.

"Wat een weekend voor ons - 40 punten in twee dagen! Deze overwinning vandaag is fantastisch", zei Mortara. "Pascal was erg sterk vandaag, het was moeilijk om hem achter te houden. We gebruikten meer energie in het eerste deel van de race om een voorsprong te bouwen en in het laatste moest ik meer energie sparen. "Ik ben blij om hier te zijn, de auto was erg competitief, het team zette een geweldige strategie neer. We proberen elke keer dat we racen ons potentieel te benutten en we doen altijd ons uiterste best. Ik ben blij met ons seizoen, dus ver."

Stand na 9 rondes

Door de overwinning springt Mortara naar de top van het rijdersklassement vanaf de achtste plaats. De coureur in dienst van ROKiT Venturi Racing staat nu 10 punten voor op Robin Frijns.
