Frijns blijft nog minimaal één seizoen bij Envision Virgin Racing

Robin Frijns rijdt volgend seizoen ook in de Formule E. De Nederlander heeft het contract met zijn huidige team. Envision Virgin Racing, verlengd. De Nederlander is sinds 2018 verbonden aan de Britse renstal. In zijn de tweede E-Prix voor het team scoorde Frijns gelijk een podium in de straten van Marrakesh in Marokko.

Frijns is zeer verheugd met zijn nieuwe verbintenis. "Ik ben erg blij om nog een seizoen bij Envision Virgin Racing te blijven. We hebben een geweldige auto en een zeer getalenteerd, toegewijd team dat fenomenaal werk doet. Samen zijn we erin geslaagd om constant te blijven in een van de meest onvoorspelbare en competitieve raceseries ter wereld, wat niet gemakkelijk is en het is een van de redenen die ons naar de top van het klassement hebben gebracht.''

Op dit moment staat Frijns tweede in de tussenstand achter Nyck de Vries met zes punten achterstand en heeft met nog twee E-Prix' nog te gaan volop kans op de titel. Volgens de Nederlander had dit niet gekund zonder een sterk team om hem heen.

"Het is ook geweldig om Nick [Cassidy] in het team te hebben - we werken heel goed samen en vullen elkaar aan. Het niveau op de Formule E-grid is ongelooflijk hoog en dit kampioenschap wordt elk jaar moeilijker, dus je hebt absoluut het beste team nodig om te slagen. Ik denk dat we over het algemeen een zeer sterke positie hebben op weg naar de laatste twee races van dit jaar en naar seizoen 8."

Volgende week zaterdag en zondag valt de beslissing in het electrische kampioenschap. Dan rijdt het 24-koppige veld op de oude luchthaven van Tempelhof in Berlijn, dat officieel haar deuren sloot in 2008.

Maar hij krijgt wel een dik salaris om te mogen racen, en dat is er niet heel veel in Nederland gegeven. Zonde dat hij de F1 nooit gehaald heeft, om welke reden dan ook, maar hij zal niet veel te klagen hebben, denk ik. Fijn in ieder geval dat hij weer een jaartje FE rijd.

Super om te zien dat Frijns weer een jaartje bij heeft getekend!

Intussen is hij een vaste waarde in de klasse, en heeft hij ook echt zijn plek daar verdiend. Zijn ervaring met de klasse en zijn grote talent brengt hem nu dan ook zo hoog in het kampioenschap.

Waar vorig jaar de continuiteit door pech en uitvalbeurten buiten zijn schuld het niet mogelijk maakte om voor de titel te strijden, ziet het er dit jaar beter voor hem uit!

Met dit team zie ik hem wel FE kampioen worden, is het niet dit jaar, dan wel volgend jaar!

Eén van de vele beloftes die de F1 (net) niet gehaald heeft, maar daar eigenlijk wel thuis hoorde. Wat er mis ging? Ik denk niet het juiste team om zich heen kunnen formeren, mede doordat de juiste naam en sponsoren ontbraken. Helaas voor hem geen beroemde naam die deuren deed openen, geen junior team die hem oppikte, geen rijke sponsor (suiker oom) die budget mee brengt en helaas ook marketing-technisch geen interessant persoon. Ook daarom is de formule 1 het hoogst bereikbare in de autosport en ook daarom halen niet alle top talenten daarom de formule 1. Helaas voor Robin en nog vele anderen

  @Rogier ik denk dat je als Audi coureur niet veel te klagen hebt. Veel vrijheid en keuzes uit klassen waarvoor je mag en kan rijden en nog leuk geld verdienen ook.
  
  Ik hoop dat hij ook in de Gen 3 tijdperk actief gaat zijn. Meer power, lichtere auto's en kleine banden zou het verschil in talent alleen maar meer in beeld moeten brengen in deze klasse.

  Ik denk dat, mocht hij de kans krijgen, hij zijn Audi en ‘leuke’ salaris zo inlevert om minimaal een seizoen in de Formule 1 te rijden

  @Rogier. In een Ferrari/Mercedes/RB misschien. Voor alle andere teams zie ik hem niet zijn contracten voor verscheuren. Het heeft hem veel jaren gekost om uberhaupt bij een fabrikant aangesloten te zijn.
