Vergne pakt pole in Berlijn, De Vries en Frijns in achterveld

Titelkandidaten de Vries en Robin Frijns konden geen goede uitgangspositie verschaffen in de voorlaatste E-Prix van het Formule E- seizoen. Op de oude luchthaven van Tempelhof in Berlijn werd de Vries 19de en Frijns 23ste.

De pole ging naar DS Techeetah-coureur Jean-Eric Vergne. Zijn teamgenoot Antonio Felix da Costa, een van de grote kanshebbers voor het kampioenschap, werd tweede op 0.073 achterstand en zorgde voor een dubbelslag voor het Chinese team.

Felix da Costa kan ondanks zijn tweede positie tevreden terug kijken. Dit kwalificatieresultaat kwam ook niet uit de lucht vallen. Vorig jaar won de DS Techeetah-coureur nog daar zijn eerste FE-kampioenschap.

De top zes van het klassement, waaronder De Vries en Frijns komen als eerste aan de beurt. De Nederlanders kennen geen goede eerste sessie. De Vries wordt vierde en Frijns zesde. De kans dat beide titelkandidaten door gaan naar super pole is super klein. Er zijn hierna nog achttien coureurs die gaan rijden op een baan die steeds meer grip krijgt.

Nadat alle 24 rijders zijn geweest, heeft Jean-Eric Vergne de snelste tijd gereden en daarmee een punt verdiend. Norman Nato, Edoardo Mortara, Antonio Felix da Costa, Sebastien Buemi en Lucas di Grassi gaan ook door naar de sessie om poleposition.

Regerend kampioen Felix da Costa is de best geklasseerde coureur uit de rangschikking. De Portugees, rijdend voor DS Techeetah, staat vijfde en heeft 15 punten achterstand op koploper De Vries. Mocht Felix da Costa poleposition pakken, wordt de achterstand verkleint naar 12 punten.

Super Pole

Om de beurt gaan de snelste zes coureurs van Q1 één vliegende ronde rijden, waarbij Vergne door zijn eerste plek in het eerste segment als laatste de baan op mag. Na vijf rijders, staat Felix da Costa bovenaan met een 1.06.300. Di Grassi, Mortara, Nato en Buemi komen allen niet aan deze scherpe tijd.

Vergne, teamgenoot van Felix da Costa, is de laatste die het feestje voor de Portugees kan verpesten. Tijdens zijn vliegende ronde is het verschil tussen de DS Techeetah-coureurs erg klein. Het is uiteindelijk Vergne die aan het langste eind trekt, pole pakt en drie extra punten kan bijschrijven.

De voorlaatste race is vanmiddag om 14.04 te zien bij Ziggo Sport.

Zowel de Vries als Frijns zullen een bull risico moeten nemen om in de p.nten te rijden om voor morgen nog een realistische kans op de titel te houden.

  Nou de vries doet morgen sowieso nog mee. Ook als da costa wint zou die 11 a 12 punten achter staan met 0 punten. Dat is nog te doen. T liefst wil je dat hij de schade beperkt door zelf 6 punten te scoren of meer. Dan heeft hij alles in eigen hand.

  Het probleem voor de Vries en voor Frijns is, is dat ze als eerste mogen kwalificeren en de baan voor de rest mogen schoon vegen, en dat ze meestal gewoon in de achterhoede mogen starten. Waardeloze kwali.

Indien zij beiden goed wegkomen, lijkt het me niet meer dan logisch dat Vergne zich collegiaal toont en met het oog op het kampioenschap de koppositie aan Da Costa schenkt.

Sterker nog, ik zou het minachtig van de concurrentie vinden als dit niet gebeurt.

  Ik vind het een moeilijke om vandaag al teamorders uit te delen. Vooral met de basissnelheid van DS op het beton.

Ik heb het weer eens geprobeerd, maar ik vind het HE-LE-MAAL niets. Echt geen reet aan. Met je superpole en je fanboost. Als je het zelf al super moet noemen, dan is het dat dus niet. B-sport.

  De fanboost is idd gaar, het kwalificatie-format heeft wel wat sleutelwerk nodig en het ontneemt de waarde van de titel 'pole position', maar het is wel een goede manier om de uitdaging groter te maken voor de grote jongens. Ik zie liever een inhaalrace dan blauwe vlaggen.
  
  Die power boost door middel van een suboptimale route vind ik overigens een goede vondst, want de coureur moet zelf besluiten wanneer het het meest opportune moment is = daar ligt dus een strategisch element in besloten. Dat laatste vind ik een absolute voorwaarde voor gimmicks. Daarom moet DRS dood.

  Probeer t dan niet weer zou ik zeggen. WRC, WRX, WEC en Nascar xinfinity zijn de andere opties voor A klasses. De rest is allemaal B of lager.

Natuurlijk, het is een wedstrijd en je doet alles om er als winnaar uit te komen, maar zou Robin niet met een heel ander gevoel (echte coureur!) in de DTM rondrijden?
