Vandoorne op pole, Evans heeft beste kans op titel

Stoffel Vandoorne heeft zijn elektrische Mercedes op pole gezet in Berlijn. Op het hobbelige en betonnen circuit op de luchthaven van Tempelhof was de Belg de snelste met een tijd van 1.06.794. Oliver Rowland werd tweede op meer dan een tiende achterstand.

Leider in de stand Nyck de Vries (95 punten) houdt zicht op het Formule E wereldkampioenschap met een 13de plek in de kwalificatie, maar moet dan wel de race van zijn leven rijden. Zijn directe concurrenten Edoardo Mortara (92 punten) Jake Dennis (91 punten) en Mitch Evans (90 punten) staan namelijk voor hem.

Evans, beginnend op P4, heeft van het viertal de beste papieren om het elektrische wk binnen te slepen. De Nieuw-Zeelander, uitkomend voor Jaguar, kan het kampioenschap opeisen zonder één gewonnen wedstrijd in het seizoen.

De andere Nederlandse titelkandidaat Robin Frijns lijkt door zijn 21ste startplek kansloos op het kampioenschap. De Envision Virgin Racing-coureur heeft een wonder nodig om alsnog gekroond te worden als eerste FE-wereldkampioen.

Voor Audi en BMW zal deze race de laatste zijn in de Formule E. De autofabrikanten stappen uit het elektrisch racen en gaan zich meer focussen op andere klasses. Er bestaat ook een kans dat Mercedes de FE verlaat. Vooralsnog staat het Duitse team nog niet ingeschreven voor volgend seizoen.

De laatste E-Prix van dit seizoen is om 15.34 uur Nederlandse tijd. De wedstrijd is te volgen op Eurosport en Ziggo Sport. Het 24-koppige veld rijdt nu in de tegenstelde richting (met de klok mee).

Waarschijnlijk dat er bijna geen hond naar kijkt. De hoge uitgaven wegen niet op tegen de tv gelden en de sponsoren zullen niet oneindig geld erin blijven pompen.

Een andere reden kan ik niet verzinnen.

Elders is te lezen dat ook MB stopt met FE.

Een tijdje geleden zei Giedo bij F1 café dat hij dacht dat FE nog maar een jaar of twee zou bestaan, helaas vroegen de andere gasten niet waarom hij dat dacht want ik begreep zijn opmerking niet helemaal. Wellicht weet hij toch al iets meer?

  Ik denk dat de FE goed over hun toekomst moet nadenken.
  Als ze echt een grote klasse zoals de F1 voor ogen zien moeten de technische reglementen meer vrijgeven worden om aantrekkelijk te blijven voor grote fabrikanten (lees competitie, wedloop op techniek).
  Anders zal het in de toekomst nooit niveau F2 zal ontstijgen, dus gelijkwaardige wagens. En zal het meer marketing/prestige zijn voor andere fabrikanten/instanties.
  Voor beide valt wat te zeggen.
  Ik zelf neig naar de eerste optie maar als je nu ziet wat de F1 kost om enigzins competitief (ook daar vertrekken fabrikanten) te willen zijn kan ik mee voorstellen dat er de laatste optie gekozen wordt (F2 achtig).

  Neem mijn reactie ook niet te serieus. Ik weet er immers niks van. Voor mij is t gewoon een saaie raceklasse met stofzuiger geluiden op saaie krappe stratencircuit. Ik heb vroeger 3 races gezien en heb besloten er gewoon niet meer naar te kijken.

  Ze moeten gewoon wat dingen vrijgeven , zoals hoeveel energie wordt verbruikt etc. (Wel binnen een bepaald budgetlimiet,, geef alles vrij en een klasse draait zichzelf de nek om (of bijna zoals de BTCC eind jaren 90 )

  Een echte ontwikkelingsrace starten door veel meer vrijheid te geven om echte ontwikkeling te belonen.
  
  Verder.... Die hele kwalificatie regels zijn een farce. De kampioen van dit jaar zal meer voortkomen als een winnaar van de loterij dan dat deze beste is.

  @mr marley. Laat ze eerst eens op echte circuits rijden ipv veredelde kartbanen. Bijna alle circuits zijn zo smal dat inhalen vrijwel onmogelijk is, dus moeten ze toevlucht nemen tot kunstgrepen als die boost strook. Zorg voor een baan waar je verschillende lijnen kunt rijden. Zal al veel schelen.
