'McLaren overweegt move naar Formule E'

Het team van McLaren heeft de afgelopen jaren de blik verbreed. De legendarische Britse renstal is al geruime tijd actief in de Formule 1 maar sinds enkele jaren rijden ze ook in andere klassen. Zo zijn ze al een paar jaar actief in de Amerikaanse Indycar en rijden ze aankomend seizoen ook in de elektrische Extreme E.

Mogelijk wordt het programma op korter termijn nog verder uitgebreid. Het was al eventjes duidelijk dat men bij de oranje-renstal met argusogen naar de Formule E keek. Volgens het platform The Race is een move naar de elektrische klasse nog nooit zo dichtbij geweest als nu.

Mercedes gaat volgend seizoen de Formule E verlaten maar men verwacht dat dit vrijgekomen plekje snel zal worden opgevuld. Mercedes zou namelijk gesprekken voeren met McLaren, de Britse renstal zou dan op de plaats van Mercedes mee kunnen doen aan de Formule E.

Brown

Overigens is de elektrische interesse van McLaren geen grote verrassing. Het team van CEO Zak Brown bekijkt al geruime tijd de mogelijkheid om in nog meer klassen te stappen. Brown gaf al eerder aan dat hij in het eerste kwartaal van 2022 met een beslissing zou komen over de toekomst. McLaren blijft in ieder geval actief in de Formule 1, aankomend seizoen gaan ze daar met Daniel Ricciardo en Lando Norris op jacht naar succes.

  met een budgetcap kan je anderen raceklasses gebruiken om zaken te vinden die misschien kan implenteren op een F1 wagen. Dus eigenlijk door je focus te verleggen en minder in tunnelvisie te zitten. kun je succesvoller worden in de F1.

  Als je geld kunt verdienen met de FE dan waarom niet? Ik denk overigens niet dat ze veel zaken uit de FE in de F1 kunnen zetten, daarvoor zijn de klassen te verschillend. Maar op rijdersvlak zijn er vast wel een aantal te vinden die voor een leuk bedrag voor hun team willen rijden. Wellicht trekt het ook nieuwe sponsoren aan.
