Tokio ondertekent overeenkomst voor Formule E race in 2024

Tokio heeft de stap gezet in het organiseren van een Formule E-wedstrijd vanaf 2024. De Formule E en de Tokio Metropolitan Government hebben onlangs een overeenkomst getekend.

Gouverneur van Tokyo, Yuriko Koike, en Jamie Reigle, CEO, Formula E, ontmoetten elkaar tijdens een officiële ondertekeningsceremonie van een Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) op het hoofdkantoor van de Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

Door de overeenkomst zullen de autoriteiten van Tokio en de Formule E samenwerken om in het voorjaar van 2024 een race naar Tokio te halen in het gebied rond Tokio Big Sight, het grootste internationale tentoonstellingscentrum in Japan. De FIA moet uiteindelijk wel groen licht geven voor dit evenement.

"Ik ben verheugd en vereerd om naast gouverneur Koike te staan en de samenwerking tussen de metropolitaanse regering van Tokio en de Formule E aan te kondigen", aldus de CEO van de Formule E. "Samen zullen we werken aan een Formule E-race in 2024 ter ondersteuning van de Zero Emission van Tokio. Tokio is een iconische wereldstad, erkend als een innovator in consumententechnologie, een leider in de auto-industrie en een wereldwijde culturele trendsetter. De Formule E is verheugd om samen te werken met de Tokyo Metropolitan Government om de stad te vestigen als een referentie in zero-emissie-initiatieven.”

Het geplande schema voor komend seizoen omvat momenteel 18 races tussen januari en juli 2023 op stratencircuits in 13 wereldsteden, waarmee het vorige record van 16 races in 10 verschillende steden dit seizoen wordt verbroken.
