Evans wint ePrix in Rome, wedstrijd opgeschrikt door megacrash

Mitch Evans heeft de eerste ePrix in Rome op zijn naam geschreven. Nick Cassidy deed goede zaken voor het kampioenschap met een tweede plaats en stoot Jake Dennis, die vierde werd, van de eerste positie af in de stand. Maximilian Guenther maakte het podium compleet.

De race was tijdelijk onderbroken door een rode vlag na een flinke klapper. Sam Bird aan kop spinde en stond dwars over de baan in een blinde bocht. Sebastian Buemi kwam met hoge snelheid eraan en ramde tegen de achterkant van Bird. Mortara kon ook geen kant op en knalde volop in Birds bolide. Het incident liep met een sisser af.

Met het halve veld er zowat uit ging de ePrix verder met een paar rondes extra ter compensatie. Evans nam het initiatief en sloeg in de slotfase toe met een inhaalactie voor P1 op Dennis, die steeds verder terugzakte en tenauwernood P4 veilig stelde na een zeer boeiend gevecht.

Goede race. Prima baan ook voor FE. (Iets langer dan Monaco). 4de keer van Evans dat hij hier wint dus het is wel echt zijn baantje.

Benieuwd of iedereen morgen kan racen van diegeen die gecrasht zijn.

Dit is precies waarom de mensen die Eau Rouge. - Le Radillion willen aanpakken omdat het een blinde bocht is ongelijk hebben. Blinde bochten heb je op vrijwel elk circuit. Het zijn de omstandigheden die het gevaarlijk maken, en in het geval van FE het gebrek aan niveau van de coureurs. Ik heb vorig jaar de handdoek gegooid en kijk niet meer naar die veredelde Clio Cup van weleer.

  Beemerdude@ ik denk dat het niveau van de coureurs prima is. Niet zo sterk als nodig voor F1... maar ruim goed genoeg voor een WEC titel (of in Buemi's geval 3 titels)
  
  Dit incident is meer aan de onderontwikkelde auto te danken en banden die veel te weinig grip geven. Er is veel mis met FE (als vaste FE kijker geef ik t toe) maar ik denk oprecht dat het de skill van Mortara is geweest waardoor Bird niet in de badkuip is geraakt. Zoals JV fan aangeeeft... de coureurs zijn van WEC niveau... dat lijkt me toch behoorlijk prima (niet top notch, maar prima coureurs)

  De oorzaak was een scheefstaande putdeksel, waar er wel meer van waren. Dat probleem schijnt niet voor vandaag op te kunnen worden gelost.

Eens kijken wat men nu gaat roepen na deze crash, want stratencircuits zijn dus ook gewoon gevaarlijk. Maar ze kunnen de vinger ook naar de vangrails wijzen, want die zorgen in dit geval voor de problemen.
