Pantano terug op kampioenschapskoers door zege

Giorgio Pantano heeft zojuist de eerste race in de GP2 Series op zijn naam geschreven. In het Franse Magny-Cours kreeg de Italiaan de leiding in de schoot geworpen nadat zowel polesitter Bruno Senna als Romain Grosjean werden getroffen door mechanische pech.

Bruno Senna verzilvert bij de start zijn pole position, maar Grosjean verliest zijn tweede plek aan Pantano in de eerste bocht. In de tiende ronde krijgt Senna te maken met een koppelingsprobleem, wat hem ook parten speelt tijdens de pitstop. Hij behoudt de leiding wel, voor Grosjean die de tweede plek weer heroverd heeft. In de 20e ronde is het uiteindelijk toch over voor Senna die zijn wagen moet parkeren. Grosjean erft de leiding. Pantano gaat na de pitstops erg hard en noteert de snelste ronde van de race in zijn jacht op Grosjean. Hij komt tot op drie tienden van de Fransman, tot het moment dat zijn banden over het beste punt heen zijn en hij wat terugvalt. De Italiaan krijgt echter hulp uit onverwachte hoek: ook Grosjean wordt getroffen door mechanische pech. Pantano erft de leiding en zal deze niet meer uit handen geven. Pastor Maldonado completeert het podium na een fantastische start van de zevende naar de vijfde plek.
