Nico Hulkenberg domineert op de Nurburgring

Nico Hulkenberg heeft zijn pole position omgezet in een overwinning in de hoofdrace zaterdagmiddag. Het is zijn allereerste zege in zijn debuutseizoen in de GP2. De jonge Duitser controleerde de race van start tot finish, bijna 14 seconden voor op nummer twee Roldan Rodriguez.

Rodriguez had Hulkenberg wellicht nog aan kunnen vallen, maar raakte in een tangle met Di Grassi, zodat Hulkenberg een voorsprong van ongeveer acht seconden op kon bouwen. Andreas Zuber profiteert van bandenproblemen bij Di Grassi door de laatste podiumplek te pakken.

Een belangrijk moment voor het kampioenschap is de prestatie van Romain Grosjean. De Fransman werkt zich op van de veertiende naar de zesde plek, maar moet twee ronden voor het einde opgeven met een hydraulisch probleem. Hulkenberg zet zich dankzij de nulscore van Grosjean direct op een punt achterstand. De enige Nederlander in het veld, Giedo van der Garde, komt aan de finish als twaalfde.
