Gasly wint hoofdrace op Spa-Francorchamps, De Jong zeventiende

Prema Powerteam-coureur Pierre Gasly heeft zijn derde overwinning in de GP2 behaald. De Fransman kwalificeerde zich achter teamgenoot Antonio Giovinazzi, maar de italiaan kende een slechte start. Gasly pakte na een paar ronden de leiding en wist met een voorsprong van elf seconden op Jordan King te winnen. Alex Lynn completeerde het podium, terwijl Daniel de Jong als zeventiende eindigde.

Bij de start was Giovinazzi slecht weg. De Italiaan, de enige coureur die tot dusver als enige beide races in een weekend won, kwam slecht weg en lag na de eerste bocht al buiten de top drie. Nadat het veld zich enigzins had gestabiliseerd vonden er spannende gevechten plaats. De coureurs uit de achterhoede probeerden hun posities te verdedigen nadat de kop was gestopt, maar konden niets uitrichten op versleten banden.

Sergey Sirotkin, een van de titelkandidaten, kende gisteren een slechte kwalificatie en startte slechts als dertiende. De Rus wist nog wel twee punten te scoren, maar ziet zijn achterstand op Pierre Gasly in het kampioenschap verder groeien. Het meest opvallende moment in de race was het stilvallen van Norman Nato. De Fransman reed lange tijd derde, maar viel in de eindfase van de race stil bij het uitkomen van de laatste bocht. Het incident zorgde voor een korte Virtual Safety Car.

De sprintrace in de GP2 start morgenvroeg om 10:20 uur.

Ik ben geen fan van Gasly, maar was best indrukwekkend wat hij hier liet zien.
Was echt spannend en natuurlijk weer veel close racing. Man, man, man, ging veelal ook maar net goed.
Die laatste chicane van Sirotkin... bijna werd hij ook meegenomen in de move vlak voor hem.

  @BEAR, Gasly is hard op weg naar het tweede STR stoeltje. Zelfs de commentator zei al zoiets van:" Gaat Gasly nu op de deur van Marko beuken om zijn F1 stoeltje te bevestigen voor volgend jaar?" :) Hij lijkt flink gegroeid in een paar wedstrijden, en hopelijk houd hij dit vol. Hij is nog wat rauw, maar als ze hem bij RB een beetje bij kunnen schaven, dan kan Gasly nog ver gaan komen.

Als Gasly op dit elan verder gaat, vrees ik voor Kvyat's zitje. Netjes hoor! Komt het talent dan toch boven drijven?

@Darlos, ik bekijk de races op Sky en dus via livestream (Cricbox, Vipbox of Vipleague..., etc). Niet ideaal, maar als BeNe race fan moet je er kennelijk wat voor over hebben en dat zelfs in de 21e eeuw.
Blijkbaar zijn 22 kappers met bijhorende tattoo en handtas die achter een balletje aanhollen interessanter in onze kontreien.
