Oliver Turvey domineert kwalificatie voor eerste GP2-race

Oliver Turvey zal de eerste GP2-race van het laatste weekend in Abu Dhabi vanaf de pole position starten. De jonge Britse coureur van iSport reed vanmiddag namelijk de snelste tijd in de kwalificatie en bleef Dani Clos met bijna een halve seconde voor.

Turvey was ook de enige coureur die onder de 1:49 dook. Clos gaf met zijn tweede tijd al 0.476 seconden toe, gevolgd door Sergio Perez op de derde startplaats. Hij zal op de tweede rij vergezeld worden door Fabio Leimer die een sterke sessie reed. Davide Valsecchi, Jules Bianchi en Luiz Razia volgden, terwijl Giedo van der Garde vanaf de achtste positie mag vertrekken. De Nederlander kwam 0.870 seconden tekort op de tijd van Turvey. Ho-Pin Tung, die dit weekend Christian Vietoris bij Racing Engineering vervangt, kwam niet verder dan de 23e en voorlaatste tijd.

Romain Grosjean, de vervanger van Tung bij DAMS, eindigde als negende terwijl Jerome D'Ambrosio niet verder kwam dan de 21e startplaats. Kersvers kampioen Pastor Maldonado reed de vijftiende tijd in de kwalificatie.
