Ericsson wint, van der Garde vijfde

De eerste GP2-race van het weekend op het circuit van Spa-Francorchamps is gewonnen door Marcus Ericsson. Giedo van der Garde leidde lange tijd de race na de safety-car periode, maar maakte enkele ronden voor het einde toch nog een pitstop. Door de nieuwe achterbanden wist onze landgenoot ook nog enkele plaatsen te winnen in de laatste ronden.

Een vijfde plaats is het lot van de man die vorige week in Rotterdam op City Racing zijn vriendin ten huwelijk vroeg. Daniel de Jong eindigt de race als dertiende.

Heftige crash Nigel Melker
Ocean Racing-coureur Nigel Melker viel na een paar ronden uit door een heftige crash bovenop Eau Rouge. De Nederlander verloor de controle op de kerbstone en crashte hard zij- en voorwaarts in de bandenstapels. De safety car kwam naar buiten maar na enkele ronden werd de rode vlag gezwaaid omdat de doktoren lang bezig waren met Melker uit de auto te krijgen en de herstelwerkzaamheden ook lange tijd in beslag namen. Melker is vervoerd naar het ziekenhuis in Luik per helikopter, zo meldt het circuit.

Het podium wordt naast Ericsson voltooid door James Calado en Davide Valsecchi. Morgen is de tweede race waarbij Felipe Nasr vanaf pole position mag starten.

Dat is niet best als je met de helikopter wordt afgevoerd. Hopen dat het meevalt

De Crashes in Eau Rouge zijn altijd hard zo ook deze. Hopelijk valt alles mee en kan hij in Monza gewoon weer mee doen!
