Esteban Gutierrez met Pirelli Award aan de haal

Lotus GP-coureur Esteban Gutierrez is verkozen tot de GP2-rijder die het best met zijn banden omsprong dit jaar. Vijftig Formule 1- en GP2-journalisten vormden een panel om de winnaar te kiezen. Het bandenmanagement van Gutierrez viel bij die jury het meest in de smaak en dus nam de Mexicaan de Pirelli Award in ontvangst.

Pirelli-racemanager Mario Isola: "We zijn extreem blij met het oordeel van de vakjury om Esteban deze prijs toe te kennen. Onze filosofie achter de GP2-banden dit jaar was om jonge talenten nog beter voor te bereiden op de Formule 1 door ze te leren optimaal om te gaan met verschillende compounds. Esteban had dat meteen door en hij toonde direct het gevoel voor de banden wat we in de GP3 ook al van hem gewend waren. Met zijn kennis van de banden kon hij zijn prestaties in de races verbeteren en daardoor gaf hij zichzelf de kans om voor het kampioenschap te strijden."
