Mazepin voor 2018 vastgelegd door ART Grand Prix

Nikita Mazepin maakt komend seizoen zijn debuut in de GP3. De 18-jarige Rus heeft voor 2018 onderdak gevonden bij ART Grand Prix. Mazepin is al enige tijd als ontwikkelingscoureur aan Force India verbonden. Het afgelopen seizoen was hij namens Hitech GP actief in het Europees kampioenschap Formule 3, waarin hij met 108 punten beslag legde op de tiende plaats.

Mazepin: "Ik ben heel blij om voor 2018 de stap naar de GP3 te maken bij ART Grand Prix. Ik heb genoten van mijn afgelopen twee seizoenen in de Formule 3 en ik ben gegroeid als coureur. Met name de tweede helft van dit jaar is positief verlopen. De recente GP3-test met ART in Abu Dhabi ging erg goed en ik voelde me gelijk op mijn gemak en vertrouwd binnen het team. Ik kijk ernaar uit om te zien wat we samen zullen bereiken in 2018."

ART-directeur Sebastien Philippe: "Nikita een stoeltje geven voor de GP3 is een logische voortzetting van onze samenwerking, waar in Abu Dhabi een uitstekende basis voor is gelegd. ART Grand Prix onderhoudt bovendien al jaren goede banden met Hitech GP. Nikita heeft ons een glimp van zijn persoonlijkheid en zijn kwaliteiten als rijder getoond. Ik ben er zeker van dat hij een belangrijke bijdrage kan leveren in onze jacht op een achtste titel bij de teams."

ART Grand Prix had eerder al Callum Ilott gecontracteerd voor komend seizoen.

Wel heel apart, dat ART nu als teamgenoot van Illot de jongen kiest die m in 2016 klappen gaf. Gaat gezellig worden als zijn resultaten tegenvallen.
