Beckmann wint eerste GP3-race op Spa in stijl

David Beckmann van Trident heeft op Spa-Francorchamps zijn eerste overwinning geboekt in de GP3. De Duitse coureur bleef in de 17 ronden durende race de Amerikaan Ryan Tveter en kampioenschapsleider Anthoine Hubert voor.

Voor Beckmann, die van pole vertrok was de race een walk in the park. Op een vochtige baan, die droog genoeg was om op slicks te starten, behield de Duitse jongeling uitstekend controle over de omstandigheden.
In de race om de punten waren er mooie gevechten zichtbaar op het circuit in de Ardennen. Met name het gevecht in de laatste ronde tussen Jake Hughes, Joey Mawson en Calum Illot was zeer vermakelijk. Ook een incident tussen Nikita Mazepin en Illot (teamgenoten bij ART met historie) werd op het scherp van de snede uitgevochten.

Na een behoorlijke kwalificatie (15e), waarbij hij zijn beide teamgenoten bij MP Motorsport de baas was, startte Richard Verschoor zijn allereerste GP3 race vanuit de pits. Verschoor had zich niet gemeld bij de weegbrug na afloop van zijn run en daardoor werd gisteren zijn tijd geschrapt. Verschoor deed het keurig, hield zijn auto op het asfalt en finishte uiteindelijk in de achterhoede. Joey Mawson, eveneens ex Van Amersfoort Racing, zal morgen bij de sprintrace van pole position mogen starten.
