Wickens maakt volgende stap in zijn revalidatie

IndyCar-coureur Robert Wickens heeft zijn fans voorzien van een update over zijn herstel na de schokkende crash op Pocono Raceway in augustus. De Canadese coureur had schade aan zijn ruggenmerg opgelopen na een ongeval op de oval. 

Zijn auto werd uit elkaar gescheurd en Wickens ligt sinds het ongeval in het ziekenhuis. Hij kan momenteel niet zelfstandig staan of lopen, maar deze week deed hij dat wel met de hulp van materialen en fysiotherapeuten.

In een video op social media, waaronder Instragram en Twitter, legde de Canadees uit dat een goede dosis cafeïne ook een essentieel ingrediënt was in het proces. "Ik drink koffie, omdat de cafeïne je bloeddruk verhoogt," zei hij. "Wanneer ik opsta, zal mijn bloeddruk dalen en zou ik kunnen flauwvallen."

Na zijn kop koffie is hij met riemen vastgezet. De 'loopoefeningen' helpen de spieren in zijn benen hun kracht terug te krijgen en hun geheugen van het lopen te behouden, wat helpt bij toekomstige revalidatie.

    Ik heb altijd enorme bewondering voor mensen die zich zo positief door enorme tegenslag heen slaan. Ik vraag me af of ik dat zelf zou kunnen opbrengen (het positief blijven)

      Je kunt er onmogelijk over oordelen als je niet zoiets heftigs hebt meegemaakt, wie weet heb je ergens nog genoeg positieve energie in je om er weer vol tegenaan te gaan. Je moet eigenlijk ook wel. Zanardi is ook zo'n ras -optimist

      Je weet het inderdaad niet (maar daarom vraag ik het me ook af)

      Ik doel overigens niet alleen op sportmensen, ook in mijn persoonlijke omgeving zie ik soms mensen met zoveel positieve energie terwijl ze in een moeilijke situatie zitten dat i kdenk, waar aal je het vandaan!

      Echt petje af voor al die mensen ide het kunnen opbrengen!

    Meest inspirerende filmpje van de afgelopen weken. Spiermassa is echt wel heel weinig nog op dit moment. Gaat toch hard achteruit bij zulke verwondingen maar er zit wel muziek in zo te zien.
