Grosjean wil slagen bij JHR: "De druk is groot"

Romain Grosjean is in 2024 alsnog terug te vinden op de IndyCar-grid. De Fransman zei dat de deal met Juncos Hollinger Racing vrij laat werd beklonken. De eerste gesprekken vonden begin september plaats in Portland wat uiteindelijk uitmondde in een overeenkomst. Tot grote opluchting van Grosjean.

"Ik ben blij om weer te gaan racen in de IndyCar", begon de voormalig F1-coureur tegenover de officiële website van de Amerikaanse openwielklasse. "Zoals jullie weten geniet ik enorm van de serie. Ik geniet echt van de sfeer."

JHR is een relatief klein team in opkomst en is in vergelijking met zijn vorige werkgever Andretti een andere werkomgeving. Voor Grosjean de taak om met ze mee te groeien. "Het is natuurlijk een nieuwe uitdaging, een beetje anders dan de afgelopen twee jaar. Ik bedoel, ik ben enthousiast over het blijven opbouwen van het momentum van Juncos. Ik denk dat ze het de laatste paar races heel goed hebben gedaan. Benieuwd wat we samen kunnen doen. Ik denk dat het, naast de toetreding tot een nieuw team, een uitdaging zal zijn voor ons allemaal, maar niets waar we bang voor zijn."

Toch voelt Grosjean een bepaalde druk en wil dolgraag slagen."De druk is groot, maar de druk is ook voor mezelf", vervolgde Grosjean. “Ik heb het gevoel dat ik nog steeds races kan winnen en dat ik nog steeds erg competitief kan zijn. Ik wil dat doen."

"Ik verliet de Formule 1 omdat ik het gevoel had dat ik gewoon niet op de grid wilde staan om op de grid te staan. Ik wilde competitief zijn. Er was geen optie. Toen ik naar IndyCar kwam, had ik het gevoel dat ik competitief kon zijn met Coyne, ik kon competitief zijn met Andretti. Ik hoop dat we competitief kunnen met Juncos Hollinger en het goed kunnen doen. We gaan allemaal ons best doen. We gaan allemaal zo hard werken als we kunnen, en de tijd zal leren of dit de juiste zet was of niet."

Veel succes en de kans op slagen wordt alleen maar groter als je geen domme dingen doet op de baan.

Prima keuze van zowel JHR als Romain. Andretti was echt waardeloos afgelopen jaar. (Herta was echt helemaal niks) Alleen Kirkwood bakte er op de stratencircuits wat van. JHR is prima keuze, ook vanwege de samenwerking met McLaren! Hopelijk houdt Romain het een beetje gezellig met zijn Argentijnse teamgenoot, anders maken de fans "viande hachée" van hem op de socials!

  JHR kan zomaar de laatste drempel richting het afvoerputje zijn @Bertrand en er zullen aardig wat Indy-coureurs zijn die het jammer vinden dat Grosjean alsnog een zitje heeft gevonden...

  Betrand@ JHR is een klein team met beperkte financiele middelen. Die Mclaren deal kost ook geld... en een Grosjean die hem 1 op de 4 races in de muur knalt kunnen ze niet gebruiken.
  
  Een slecht jaar van Grosjean kan zomaar 2 indycarstoeltjes kosten voor het 2025 seizoen omdat JHR de financien niet rond krijgt na flinke schadeposten.
  
  En zoals Larry aangeeft... Grosjean kan ook wel eens een slecht seizoen hebben omdat hij zoveel vrienden heeft gemaakt.
