Franchitti naar Indy 500 als bestuurder van pace car

Dario Franchitti is in mei toch van de partij bij de komende editie van de Indy 500. De Schot moest eind vorig jaar noodgedwongen zijn helm aan de wilgen hangen. Hij was in Houston zwaar gecrasht en op doktersadvies besloot hij te stoppen met racen. De organisatie van de Indy 500 heeft een mooie nieuwe rol voor hem bedacht.

Franchitti, die het evenement drie maal op zijn naam schreef, zal de pace car besturen. "Het is een geweldige eer voor mij om dat te mogen doen. Als liefhebber van autosport en drievoudig winnaar van de Indy 500 zal ik elke minuut dat ik het veld dit jaar aan mag voeren koesteren. Hoewel ik zelf dan niet race, dichter dan dit kom ik niet meer op de actie. Ik kan niet wachten totdat het mei is."
