Ed Carpenter opnieuw op pole position voor Indy 500

Ed Carpenter vertrekt komende zondag vanaf pole position in de Indy 500. De Amerikaan troefde James Hinchcliffe en Will Power af in de kwalificatie op de Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Voor Carpenter is het de tweede keer op een rij dat hij in de Indy 500 vanaf pole position start.

Carpenter: "Het is geweldig om dit twee maal achter elkaar te doen. Vorig jaar kwam het onverwacht en ook nu had ik er niet op gerekend vanwege de stevige concurrentie. Het is gaaf, maar vorig jaar wist ik deze startplek niet te verzilveren en ik ben vastberaden om dat nu wel te doen."

De tweede plaats van Hinchliffe is misschien nog wel opmerkelijker. De Canadees miste een aantal trainingen voor de Indy 500 vanwege een hersenschudding. De artsen zetten het licht pas vorige week op groen en binnen een aantal sessies heeft hij toch een goed ritme gevonden.
