Scott Dixon evenaart Al Unser jr met zege in Mid-Ohio

Scott Dixon heeft in Mid-Ohio voor de 34ste keer een IndyCar-race gewonnen. Daarmee komt hij op gelijke hoogte met Al Unser jr in de lijst van meeste overwinningen. Het was tevens al zijn vijfde zege op de Mid-Ohio Sport Car Course. En hij deed het in stijl.

Dixon startte als allerlaatste en baande zich een weg door het veld. In de eerste bocht was het al chaos doordat Tony Kanaan spinde en Marco Andretti op de wagen van de Braziliaan knalde. Ook Takuma Sato kwam daar niet ongeschonden uit de strijd.

Dixon profiteerde verder van een zeer gunstige neutralisatie na een spin van Ryan Hunter-Reay. Hij had net zijn pitstop gemaakt en de rest ging tijdens de gele vlag-situatie naar binnen. Zo belandde Dixon aan kop en die positie stond hij niet meer af.
