Power grijpt zijn eerste IndyCar-titel in Fontana

Het is Will Power eindelijk gelukt om zijn eerste felbegeerde IndyCar-titel te winnen. De Australiër kwam in 2010, 2011 en 2012 net te kort, maar mag zich nu dan eindelijk kampioen noemen. Power eindigde in de seizoensfinale op de Auto Club Speedway als negende en dat was genoeg voor de titel.

Power kreeg het niet cadeau in Fontana. Hij startte de race vanaf de 21e plaats, terwijl concurrent Helio Castroneves vanaf pole position vertrok. In de race vocht Power zich sterk naar voren, terwijl Castroneves zijn pole position niet wist om te zetten in een overwinning. De Braziliaan kwam als veertiende over de streep, vijf plaatsen achter Power.

Met de laatste race op de Auto Club Speedway in Fontana achter de rug, is het IndyCar seizoen ten einde. De eerste race van het seizoen 2015 zal worden verreden op 29 maart in Saint Petersburg.
